Intro to Drones

Pilot drones and learn about their uses.

This course is a great fit for students who enjoy technology, flight, or building things and want an exciting introduction to drones. Instruction blends guided practice and team activities as students learn how drones work and how to fly them safely.

Students pilot small drones, learn basic rules for safe flying, and practice their skills through obstacle courses, delivery challenges, and simple search-and-rescue missions. They try out drone cameras to take photos and short videos and experiment with beginner-friendly tools for programming flight paths. Fairfax Collegiate provides drones and laptops for student use, and students work in pairs for most activities.

At the end of the course, instructors upload a collection of student photos and videos for families to access. Students leave with growing confidence in drone piloting and coding and a strong start toward exploring aviation and robotics.
