Expand writing skills through practicing in a variety of genres.
This course works well for students who want to grow as writers and enjoy exploring ideas through language. It fits for those who are ready to experiment with different genres and refine their personal style. With instructor-led guidance, thoughtful discussions, and consistent practice, students strengthen every step of the writing process from a rought draft to a final product.
Students read short stories, plays, poems, and personal narratives, then try out each form in their own writing. They craft characters and settings, build longer stories, write scenes for the stage, and experiment with poetic techniques. Peer review, creative prompts, and revision workshops keep the class active and supportive, which helps students develop clarity, voice, and control.
By the end of the course, students take home a binder filled with drafts, exercises, and polished pieces. They leave ready to tackle more complex writing with confidence, creativity, and a stronger sense of their own voice.
