Where do you attend school and what activities are you involved in?

I graduated from University of California, Fresno with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies. In addition, I graduated from George Mason University with a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

What have your teaching opportunities been outside of Fairfax Collegiate?

I worked with a non-profit group called Technology Youth Empowerment and STEM Camps. I helped them run an after-school STEM program at my school.

What subjects have you taught with Fairfax Collegiate in the past?

I worked with Fairfax Collegiate in 2019 and 2020. I taught two writing courses: Writing and Revising 3-4 and Writing Skills and Grammar 5-6.

What sort of experience have you had in the subject you’ll be teaching this summer?

I have been a full-time Advanced Academics (formerly known as gifted and talented) teacher with Fairfax County Public Schools for twelve years. As a result of the Virginia Literacy Act (VLA) that was passed in 2024, I completed a course that was based on the science of reading and evidence-based literacy instruction. The course was through the University of Virginia.

What excites you about teaching and working with students?

I enjoy teaching grammar because it contains the building blocks of writing, and I enjoy helping each student find their own voice in writing.

Outside of work, what are some hobbies you enjoy?

I enjoy puzzles, exercising, reading, and watching documentaries.
