This course is great for students who want to become stronger, more strategic readers. It helps those who enjoy exploring stories, asking questions, and understanding how writers communicate their ideas. With guidance and plenty of practice, students grow their confidence as they learn ways to understand, remember, and respond to what they read.
Students read across many genres while trying out a wide range of reading and thinking strategies. They annotate texts, outline key ideas, discuss themes, analyze persuasive techniques, and summarize what they’ve learned. Creative activities like writing reviews, haikus, scripts, and comic strips keep the class engaging and help students connect reading with their own writing.
By the end of the course, students take home a binder filled with notes, responses, and original work that shows their progress. They leave ready to approach new reading with sharper skills, clearer strategies, and a stronger sense of how to make meaning from any text they encounter.
