Arduino

Rising Grades 7 to 9

Prototype hardware devices.

This course is ideal for students who enjoy technology, programming, or building things and want a beginner-friendly introduction to how software can control electronics. Instruction blends direct guidance with approachable daily projects that help students learn step by step. Prior experience with any type of programming is helpful but not required.

Students explore the Arduino platform as they create circuits, write programs, and bring simple devices to life with lights, sensors, buttons, and more. They test ideas, troubleshoot their work, and experiment with variations as they grow more confident writing code that interacts with their hardware. Fairfax Collegiate provides laptops and Arduino boards for student use.

At the end of the course, students take home a digital collection of photos and videos documenting their completed projects, as well as copies of their project source code. They leave ready to continue experimenting with Arduino on their own and more confident tackling future projects in programming, electronics, or engineering.

"My son loved this class and learned so much. He couldn’t wait to go back every day."
