Where do you attend school, and what what are you studying?
I am an undergrad studying graphic design and marketing at VCUarts in Richmond, Virginia. I currently serve as president of Adobe club and historian for the Asian American Pacific Islander Affinity at VCU. In high school, I was the president of the National Art Honor Society and an officer of the American Sign Language club and Film club. I was also a team leader in Yearbook. Throughout my education, I've earned several awards, scholarships, and accreditations from Scholastic Arts, Falls Church Art in Excellence, Fairfax Spotlight on the Arts, and the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. I've also exhibited and featured my artwork in galleries and publications.
What have your teaching opportunities been outside of Fairfax Collegiate?
I was a previous camp counselor for Fairfax County Park Authority and Vacation Bible School, mentoring students and facilitating activities that sparked teamwork and curiosity. I additionally host workshops during the school semester where I teach my campus community demos on creative tools and digital software.
What sort of experience have you had in the subject you’ll be teaching this summer?
This summer, I'm instructing the Digital Cinema, Buildings and Bridges, and Stop-Motion Animation courses. I've taken a video/sound/performance class and produced a variety of media, ranging from stop-motion animations to mixed-media film installations. Similarly to my campus job, I help students troubleshoot creative projects involving podcasts, filmmaking, audio engineering, and camera/video hardware. I have experience storyboarding for animated student films and for my personal work. I'm passionate about anything interactive or design related and am self-taught in 3D design/printing.
What excites you about teaching and working with students?
I'm excited to make summer break an experience where students can learn while having fun!
It's a privilege to guide and connect with students who are exploring passions similar to mine. I'm so happy to be part of their journey and to foster a supportive space where they can experiment and express their creative voices!
Outside of work, what are some hobbies you enjoy?
I love cooking, playing guitar, and watching bad movies with my friends! I also, of course, enjoy drawing and photography in my downtime.
