Where do you attend school, and what what are you studying?

I am attending the University of Virginia (UVA), double majoring in economics and commerce.

At UVA, I am involved in the Cavalier Daily (school-run newspaper) as an operations manager, senior analyst, and liaison between the operations desk and the organizations executive team. Additionally, I also serve as the social and outreach chair of the Korean Student Association, where I plan events which connect current KSA members to alumni— events include culinary events, cultural gatherings, and mixers with other schools in Virginia.

In high school, I served as the president of my English Honor Society (EHS) and the captain of the Forensic Speech and Debate Club, competing on both state and national levels. "

What have your teaching opportunities been outside of Fairfax Collegiate?

At UVA, I work with the Madison House (student volunteering organization). Here, I tutor sixth-eighth graders in subjects such as English and creative writing to aid them in their research projects and endeavors. I have been doing this since September of 2025.

In high school, I helped underclassmen at our writing center, instructing a cohort of five students and working with them over a five-month period to better their writing skills.

What sort of experience have you had in the subjects you’ll be teaching this summer?

In my junior and senior year of high school, I competed in numerous speech and debate events; original oratory— a ten minute memorized speech similar to a TedTalk— was the main event I competed in and also the one in which I received the most accolades for. More specifically in my event, I was ranked number one in the state for original oratory in the VHSL bracket in 2024 and amongst the top thirty nationally in the WACFL bracket whose competition was hosted in Chicago in both 2024 and 2025.

At UVA, I have taken a public policy course which has projects relying heavily on public speaking, deliberations, and collaboration between students, equipping me well to instruct students in such subject areas.

What excites you about teaching and working with students?

Being able to encounter different personalities to create new ways to not only teach students, but allow them to really resonate with the course material and gain a newfound love for what they are being taught.

Outside of work, what are some hobbies you enjoy?

I love to write short stories and poems on my free time! Whenever I feel inspired by something, you’ll always see me on my notes app writing up some drafts for stories/narratives. Along with this, I love to try new places to eat with my friends— we usually travel to DC or anywhere in the DMV area to try new restaurants and rank them on a spreadsheet we created last year in November.
