Ben was raised in Greenville, South Carolina, and attended Southside High School’s International Baccalaureate program. During high school, he was one of the top twenty-five Congressional debaters in the country and founded a summer internship program to help young people get involved in local politics. After graduating high school, he studied Psychology, Neuroscience, and Biology in the Honors program at George Mason University. Originally, Ben thought he was destined to become a lawyer, but after a year at William and Mary Law, he realized that his true passion was teaching. He has spent the last year teaching middle school math and science in Virginia Beach. He is currently applying to programs to receive his Masters in Education so he can continue teaching in Washington state and is looking forward to teaching with Fairfax Collegiate for the third time this summer.
