Use competitive video games to help develop good sportsmanship, respect, inclusion, and setting and working towards goals.
The course begins with a unit on PC gaming technology. Students learn about the different components of a computer and examine how our classes of older peers assemble them step-by-step into a working gaming PC. In between these lessons, students learn to play Super Smash Bros Ultimate, a popular esport game for the Nintendo Switch.
Once completed, the PCs will then be used to play Rocket League and StarCraft II. Instructors help students quickly learn the rules and tactics of the games, and help students understand the advantages of applying creative, strategic, and team-based thinking.
In addition to playing games, students also learn about the emerging e-sports trend, and about opportunities to participate in e-sports at the middle and high school level.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate has an ESRB Rating of Everyone 10+ and Rocket League is rated Everyone. StarCraft II is rated by the ESRB as Teen but is modified in this course to use kid-friendly graphics.
