The Fairfax Collegiate Debate Society offers instruction and weekly opportunities for students to debate topics of personal interest, such as whether cellphones should be permitted in school and whether the school year should be year-round. Each week features a different topic for debate.
Students learn to select convincing evidence and craft it into persuasive arguments, presenting their arguments within a structured debate setting and also observing and evaluating their fellow students. The course instructor offers frequent feedback and coaching to students.
Debate topics rotate each season, affording students a fresh experience each time they join the Debate Society.
