Ilsa Tinkelman is a recent graduate of the the College of William & Mary with a BA in Government and a VA teaching license. She plans on teaching Social Studies teaching positions at the Secondary level.
At William & Mary Ilsa tutored high school students, volunteered with the Girl Scouts of the College, and participated in W&M’s Peer Advisor program, an organization that helps new students adjust to the academic atmosphere on campus. She also worked with high school students and teachers while planning the 24th annual W&M High School Model United Nations conference that attracts high schools from all across the country. Through her position on the Secretariat, or executive planning board, she was in charge of communication with all of the attending high schools and their faculty members.
Ilsa has also had a number of professional experiences with education, beginning with time spent as a summer camp counselor for Camp Friendship in 2007. In 2009, she interned with a non-profit organization called Childhelp where she planned and taught a math curriculum for students in an underprivileged community. This experience was both rewarding and enriching, and taught her a lot about classroom management practices and working with culturally and linguistically diverse students. Finally, this past semester she completed her student teaching practicum at Jamestown High School where she taught Sociology and AP Government classes for ten weeks.
This is Ilsa's second summer working with Fairfax Collegiate.
